How to Remove Tiles in Your Home

Removing tiles can be a messy job, but it doesn’t have to be. If you know the proper way to remove tile, you can avoid damage and unnecessary stress. Here are some steps for how to safely and effectively remove tiles from your home.

Step 1 - Prepare the Area

Before you begin, make sure you have all the tools and supplies that you need for the job. You will need a crowbar, putty knife, hammer, drill, grout saw, and tile adhesive remover. Also, make sure that the surrounding area is protected from damage by covering it with a drop cloth or other protective material.

Step 2 - Remove the Grout

Once everything is set up and ready to go, use your grout saw to remove the grout from between the tiles. It may be necessary to use a hammer or drill to break away large pieces of tile that are stuck together. Be careful not to scratch or damage any of the adjacent tiles while working on this step. Once all of the grout has been removed, it’s time to move on to step three.

Step 3 - Remove the Adhesive

After all of the grout has been removed, it’s time to tackle removing the adhesive from underneath each tile. This can be done with a wall tile removal tool such as a putty knife or tile adhesive remover depending on how stubborn the adhesive is. Work slowly and carefully as you scrape away at each tile until all of the adhesives are gone. If there are any stubborn areas left behind after scraping them off with a putty knife then try using some tile adhesive remover on them instead.

Step 4 - Remove Any Nails or Screws

Now that all of the adhesives have been removed, look for any nails or screws holding down individual tiles and remove them using a drill if necessary. Once they have been taken out, use your hammer or crowbar to carefully pry up each tile one at a time until they are completely removed from their place on the wall or flooring surface below them. Make sure you are extra careful here because broken tiles can be difficult (and expensive) to replace.

Step 5 - Clean Up & Dispose Properly

Once all of the tiles have been successfully removed from their place on either walls or floors in your home, it’s important that you dispose of them properly according to local regulations in order to avoid any fines or other repercussions for improper disposal methods used here! Then give yourself a pat on the back for completing this project as safely and efficiently as possible.
