Not only does it provide gentle, efficient heat throughout the entire room, but it’s also easy to install. In this blog post, we’ll take you through the step-by-step process of installing electric underfloor heating so that you can enjoy a comfortable home all year round.
Tools and Materials Needed
Before installing electric underfloor heating process, make sure you have all the necessary tools and materials on hand. This includes a tape measure, a hammer drill, electrical wiring, an electrician’s knife, wire cutters, a soldering iron, a heat-resistant insulation board, adhesive tape or glue for securing the insulation board in place, and electric underfloor heating mats or cables.
Step 1: Prepare the Floor
The first step in installing electric underfloor heating is to prepare the floor. You will need to make sure that the subfloor is level and free from any imperfections. This means checking for cracks or gaps in the floor and filling them with a concrete patch before laying down your underfloor heating system. Additionally, if your subfloor has an uneven surface, you may need to use levelling compound or self-levelling screed to ensure that your new flooring will lay flat when installed overtop of the heating system.
Step 2: Plan Your Heating Layout
Once your subfloor is prepped, it’s time to plan out your heating layout on paper or using software specifically designed for this purpose. When planning out your layout, make sure that you consider factors like how much heat each area needs as well as where the furniture will be located in order to avoid any potential problems down the line. It’s also important to create a detailed wiring diagram so that you know exactly how each element should be wired together.
Step 3: Install Your Heating System
Now that you’ve planned out your heating layout and created a wiring diagram, it's finally time to install your electric underfloor heating system Start by laying down foam insulation underneath each heated area before laying down electrical cables directly onto the insulation. Once all of the cables are in place, cover them with another layer of foam insulation and then secure them with adhesive tape before installing whichever type of floor covering you prefer (carpet, tile, etc.). Finally, connect all of the wires between each element according to your wiring diagram and turn on the power.
